Route_Riter has remained unchanged for the last couple of years as its developer, the brilliant Mike Simpson has moved onto other projects. At last count, Route_Riter has been downloaded over 350,000 times.

Long-time MSTS user and contributor, and Information Systems specialist and guru, Jeffrey Kraus-Yao has now taken over the care, feeding and further development of Route_Riter. We can look forward to this invaluable program being part of the MSTS scene for years to come.

MSTS or Open Rails (OR)

The Academy of Interactive Arts & Sciences nominated Microsoft Train Simulator for its 2001 'Computer Simulation Game of the Year' award, which ultimately went to Microsoft Flight Simulator 2002. The game also included a route and activity editor, that enabled users to create and modify routes, trains and activities. Version 17

MONON-2 Install Instructions Version 17

1) Move or delete (A MUST) any previous MONON-2 version in your Routes folder YOU RECEIVED FROM ME
in your MSTS Routes folder if you have it, if you do not have it, disregard this step.

2) Download the Monon-2 version 17 files to a temp directory and run the setup programs starting with number 1.

Note: The .DO_ files are part of another file, you need to download them but do not need to run them, they will run
as part of another file.

Change the default install directory of:
' C:Program FilesMicrosoft GamesTrain Simulator'
when prompted if you need to.

Install to your 'Routes' folder.

Install into your 'MSTS' Folder.

To play the 28 provided and detailed activities, install the next item (9) or you can skip it.

3) If you do not have X Tracks installed, download and install it first (trainsim.com - XTRACKS.ZIP).

4) If you do not have MSTS New Roads installed, download and install it second, (trainsim.com - trainsim.com - newrds.zip).

5) If you do not have Scail roads installed, download and install it third
(3DTrains- v1.77 ScaleRoad Public Beta -scailroad.zip)

6) Optional: There are lower poly grass shapes to use in the
' MONON-2FPS grass shape changes' folder (if you need them 'Optional').
Just put the ones you want in the shapes folder if you need more fps or vice-versa.

7) The route comes with MANY explore paths and 28 ACTIVITIES!!!!!!!!!!!
These activities require freeware and payware.
The information is the download area for details (RollingStock REQUIRED to run the Activities for the Monon Route)

Version 15 or Version 16 Activities:
Any activities from verion 15 or version 16 that have a path that goes through Bedford to Bloomington will need to have
there path fixed!!!!
Any activities from verion 15 or version 16 that have a path that goes through Chicago to Joliet will need to have there
path fixed!!!!

9) Ensure you have BIN installed but is not required. But, it does fix the White Void issue this route like many others have
without bin being installed. 'UKTRAINSIMBIN'.

First time startup

The first time you run the MONON-2 Version 12 Simulation, MS Train Sim ....WILL.... build the terrain buffers
(if so, this will take several minutes, this is normal and only happens once).

You may need to make an activity to run the Monon-2, IF YOU DO NOT USE THE DEFAULT ACTIVITIES.

Notes:

Season swap for LF house shapes, in the 'MONON-2' folder.
Switches the textures from Season to Night-Snow textures.

Era Swap

Era Swap changes the files for the Route to be in the year selected (1950, 1965, 1972 or 2000) :

Car spawners, static cars and trucks, static train cars and engines and some buildings automatically change.

TO use ERA Swap, go to the MONON-2 Route folder and launchthe ERA you want the MONON-2 to run in:

Note: Era Swap for 1972 post Monon (L&N Merger with Amtrak)
For BLW Monon, L&N and Amtrak equipment.
During this time most equipment was still painted Monon but the Amtrak andL&N presence was there also.

The Monon-2 was created to run in all seasons but is optimized for summer.

Missing files

See above the 'Route files to download' for some of the global missing files caused by different add on versions of road andtrack.
Download the 'shapes missing' file from the 'Route files to download' area.

There is also a zip file in the 'Docs' folder called 'Missing_Shapes.zip', this file has common missing shapes in it.

If you have any errors in the simulator of missing files, please note the location or milepost, the filenames
and email me (address is in the 'Read_Me_First_MONON-2_Install_Instructions.txt' document) and I will make aninstallable patch for EVERYONE................
